Originally from Hangzhou, China, Shen Lu holds a B.A. in Journalism and Art from The University of Iowa and a M.S. in Business Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. In 2018, she received a Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing Best in Business Award for a story about female truck drivers. Her 2014 investigative piece on the University of Iowa’s institutional failure of integrating Chinese students into campus life won a Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award.
